Online Training

Increasing security threats worldwide have created a demand for high-quality, on-demand training. www.AvsecSchool.com was established to address this need.  The website’s online courses allow for specialised security training in the workplace or other remote locations. There are no lesson times. Trainees can log onto their courses whenever it is convenient for them. Moreover, they can train at their own pace. No matter how qualified and competent your employees are, there will always be a need for training. AvsecSchool.com’s courses are recommended to all personnel who have security responsibilities both in a specifically security orientated role and those who are responsible for general security in their workplace. A Security Training Operations Programme (S.T.O.P.) Certificate of accomplishment is awarded to every participant who successfully completes an AvsecSchol.com course and passes a final assessment test.

Courses include:

1. S.T.O.P. POSTAL DEVICES

Postal devices are now one of the most common means of criminal and terrorist attack upon organisations and individuals worldwide. For example, the U.S. postal service was thrown into crisis in October 2001 when anthrax contaminated letters were sent to several government officials; and in December 2003 European Commission President Romano Prodi narrowly escaped unhurt after a parcel bomb was delivered to his home. Hazardous items that have been sent by post include bombs, incendiary devices, hazardous chemicals, razor blades, needles and broken glass. It is imperative that all personnel who handle or receive mail become familiar with the characteristics of suspect parcels, and that they follow correct procedures to mitigate the postal device threat. S.TO.P. Postal Devices is an educational e-learning course using photographic images, video, audio, text and animation to increase the security awareness of personnel in the workplace.  The interactive course enables trainees to view postal devices in normal views, as well as under x-ray.

2. RECOGNITION OF AMMUNITION, FIREARMS & IEDs

As far as the technical aspects of constructing IEDs are concerned, terrorist devices have ranged from bombs made from normal everyday items, to highly sophisticated devices utilising digital components. Modern terrorists who use IEDs as their weapons of choice are often extremely creative in designing and placing their weapons. Hundreds of everyday articles have in the past been modified and used to conceal an explosive or incendiary device, for example video cassette cases, vacuum flasks, toys, food, aerosol cans, sweet boxes and wrapped gifts. Containers, bags or boxes themselves have been turned into IEDs, for example by rolling plastic explosives into sheets and placing within linings.

The Recognition of Ammunition, Firearms and IEDs e-learning course combines case studies with video to cover the variety and sophistication of explosive devices, firearms and weapons, detailing their components and guiding students through detection methods.

Subjects include:

  • IEDs and IIDs
  • Knives and Offensive Items
  • Firearms
  • Dangerous Items and Goods
  • Past Events
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction (CBRN)
  • Detecting Prohibited Items

3. S.T.O.P. TERRORISM

Aviation is an irresistible target for terrorists, owing to the massive fear and publicity that aviation attacks generate. S.T.O.P. TERRORISM is an educational e-learning course that uses digital images, video, audio, text and animation to promote understanding and heighten awareness of the threat posed by terrorism. The course examines terrorist motivations, ideologies, tactics, targeting, and weapons capabilities - including the new threats posed by Cyberterrorism, and Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBRN) weapons. The course analyses major international aviation terrorist incidents, using video and realistic multimedia simulation to depict the gravity of the events, and illustrate the errors in the aviation security system that culminated in these attacks.

Featured events include:

  • the bombing of Korean Air flight 858;
  • the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie;the machine gun and grenade attacks on Rome and Vienna Airports; the hijack of TWA flight 847 to Beirut;
  • the attempt to get a bomb aboard an El Al flight to Tel Aviv at Heathrow Airport;
  • the September 11th suicide attacks in the U.S;
  • the "Shoe Bomber" attempt to detonate an explosive device on an American Airlines flight from Paris bound for Miami).

When you have completed the Terrorism course you should have a thorough knowledge of terrorists’ capabilities, and be more skilled and motivated to identify anomalies and deviations that could indicate terrorist activity. You will also be more familiar with terminology, vocabulary and phraseology related to the subject.

4. CARGO SECURITY AWARENESS

The business of transporting air cargo around the world is vital to all economies. Weak air cargo security measures leave cargo and also passenger aircraft at risk, because just about every passenger flight carries some freight along with the passengers and their baggage. Despite the numerous security technologies available today, the neglected element in many cargo security systems is the 'human factor'. Trained personnel are the cargo industry's most valuable security resource. In response to Aviation Security regulations which have been tightened by the European Parliament, Avsecschool has produced the Cargo Security Awareness e-learning course to help address the threats posed by terrorists and criminals to today's air cargo operations. The training teaches personnel to apply preventive security measures in accordance with aviation security programmes approved by the United Kingdom Government’s Department for Transport (DfT). The training course is suitable for all staff who work in air cargo operations, including those x-raying cargo, preparing documentation such as waybills and manifests, and personnel carrying out other activities such as receiving, handling, packing, storing and transporting or trans-shipping air cargo.
